Pope Francis will visit Jordan during a visit to the Middle East next year, the state news agency Petra reported on Satuday, citing a senior source at the Vatican.

"During his [August] visit to the Vatican, King Abdullah II invited His Holiness to visit Jordan," Vatican foreign affairs official Dominique Mamberti said after a meeting with Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.

The Pope is also expected to visit Israel and the West Bank.
