Protesters march in Berlin against Trump's refugee ban

Around 1,200 people demonstrated outside the Brandenburg Gate and US embassy in Berlin on Saturday (February 4) against President Donald Trump and his temporary ban on refugees and nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Protesters held signs reading "We in Berlin know walls don't work" and "Why can't my girlfriend come to the US with me, Trump?" at the demonstration against the ban and Trump's plan to build a border wall with Mexico.

"I think it's scary what's happening in America now. I think we must somehow get off the sofa," a protester named Patricia Schon said.

"I'm an American, I live here, I think all Americans here in Berlin are shocked by what's happening and saddened by what's happening, and we feel we have to show what we believe in and we have to show that we resist," said Ann Wertheimer, the chair of advocacy organization American Voices Abroad.

Trump signed an order just over a week ago putting a four-month hold on allowing refugees into the US and temporarily barred travelers from Syria and six other Muslim-majority countries.
