The leader of an al-Qaida-affiliated rebel group in Syria said Thursday the nearly three-year conflict raging in the country was approaching an end.

In an rare televised interview with Al Jazeera, the leader of Jabhat al-Nusra, Abu Mohammed al-Joulani said his fighters had taken an upper hand in the civil war and nixed the possibility of peace talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad.

“The battle is almost over, we have covered about 70 percent of it, and what's left is small. We will achieve victory soon... It's only a matter of days,” he told Al Jazeera.
