Ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's departure for New York to speak at the United Nations, Defense Minister Ehud Barak was expected to depart for Washington Saturday night for meetings with his US counterpart, US Defense Secretary Leon Pannetta, Israel Radio reported.

In addition to the expected Palestinian statehood bid in the United Nations later this week, Barak was to discuss the Iranian nuclear issue and developments in the Middle East, according to the report.

Barak was also scheduled to meet with various other heads of American intelligence agencies.
