Report: Islamist lawmaker in Egypt calls to ban ballet

An Islamist member of the upper house of Egypt's parliament, raised ire among artist when he called ballet "the art of nudity" that promotes social "indecency," Dubai-based al-Arabiya reported Saturday.
Shura Council member Gamal Hamed in a council session this week convened to discuss Egypt's budget was quoted as saying “[Ballet] is the art of nudity, spreading immorality and obscenity among people”.
Enraged artists reportedly criticized Hamed for his remarks including his call to ban the dance because, according to him, Islam prohibits it.
