Islamists in Egypt clashed with police amid protests Friday in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria ahead of the trial of deposed President Mohamed Morsi, AFP reported.

The coalition of Morsi supporters that called for the rally said it would also stage demonstrations on Monday outside the court where the ousted president was due to appear.

Egyptian police arrested 60 protesters during Friday's protests, AFP cited a security official as saying.
