Saeb Erekat, chief negotiator for the Palestinian Authority in the peace negotiations with Israel, has tendered his resignation to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Ma'an News Agency reported. The negotiator Mohammed Shtayyeh also presented his resignation to Abbas, according to the report.

People in Erekat's inner circle refused to comment on the report on Thursday, only saying that Erekat was meeting with Abbas, Israel Radio reported.

Abbas called for a PLO Executive Committee meeting to discuss the issue as "soon as possible," Ma'an reported.
