Report: Syrian opposition to discuss chemical arms use

May 7, 2013 10:17

The Syrian National Coalition (SNC) opposition group was set to conduct a symposium in Istanbul Tuesday on claims of chemical weapons use by rebels, Al Jazeera reported.

According to Al Jazeera, the SNC has said only Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces have the capabilities to use such weapons.

The symposium was likely scheduled in response to comments Monday made by Carla Del Ponte, a UN human rights commission member, who said Syrian rebels were suspected as using illegal nerve gas.

Reuters contributed to this report.
