Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday called on Israel to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) "without delay" for a "nuclear-free zone in the Middle East."

Speaking at the UN General Assembly, the Iranian president called for a "total elimination" of nuclear arms and all weapons of mass destruction in the region.

Rouhani asserted that "any use of nuclear weapons is a violation against humanity, stating that "the world has waited too long for nuclear disarmament."
