MOSCOW - The Kremlin condemned the latest nuclear test conducted by North Korea on Friday, saying it ran counter to the norms and principles of international law and undermined the atmosphere of security and mutual trust on the Korean peninsula.

"What's more, it leads to further escalation of tension," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference call with journalists.

"We call on the parties concerned for restraint. We consistently support the de-escalation of the situation and the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula."
