Renewed efforts to find a peaceful settlement to fighting in Syria and tensions in other Middle Easter countries were at the top of the agenda at talks between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers and Russia's Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.

The fourth round of talks between the GCC and Russia come as the UN mediator of Syrian peace talks is set to announce the date for a new round of talks after consulting the UN Security Council, despite the continuing violence on the ground.

The Russian foreign minister said Thursday's meeting focused on finding peaceful solutions to tensions in the region.

"Both sides underlined today that the problems of Middle East countries must be overcome with respect to international rights, through inclusive national dialogue with respect to independence and territorial integrity of all states," said Lavrov at a news conference in Moscow after the talks.
