Russia's parliament erupted in applause on Wednesday when it became clear that Donald Trump had won the leadership of the world's most powerful country against the odds in Tuesday's election.

A member of Vladimir Putin's United Russia announced Trump's victory to lawmakers in the lower house of parliament."Dear friends, dear colleagues, three minutes ago Hillary Clinton admitted her defeat in the US presidential election and a second ago Trump started his speech as president-elect of the United States of America, on which I congratulate all of you," said lawmaker Vyacheslav Nikonov.
