S. Korean marine kills 3 soldiers in shooting spree

SEOUL - A South Korean marine went on a shooting spree on Monday at a base near the tensely guarded border with North Korea, killing three soldiers in an incident unrelated to the rivals' ongoing conflict, an official said.
The shooting took place at a base on an island off the divided peninsula's west coast. An island further off the coast was bombarded with artillery shells by North Korea last November killing four people.
"Three have been killed and two are injured," a Defense Ministry official said by telephone, adding the suspect had been detained and was undergoing questioning.
It was not immediately clear what motivated the marine's actions.
