Silvan Shalom, the minister responsible for the development of the Negev and the Galilee, voiced opposition on Thursday to the government decision to build a new international airport in Ramat David, just outside of Haifa.

The minister had instead urged the government to build the airport on the grounds of Nabatim, an air force base just east of Beersheba, according to Army Radio.
