According to the AFP, Mehdi Hashemi, the son of Iran's former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of security offences and financial crimes, state media said Sunday.

Iranian authorities accused Hashemi of being involved in protests that followed Iran's disputed presidential election in 2009, and was later arrested after returning to Tehran in 2012.
