Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos implored Palestinian Authority President in a phone call on Thursday night to reconsider his decision to withdraw from the upcoming presidential elections, Israel Radio reported. Abbas is the hope of the Palestinian people and must allow European nations to intervene and salvage the peace process, Moratinos was quoted as saying. According to the report, Arab League chief Amr Moussa also contacted Abbas on Thursday night in an attempt to persuade him to reevaluate his decision. However, Abbas stated earlier on Thursday that world and Arab leaders would do better to focus their efforts on pressuring Israel.
