Syrian President Bashar Assad is "optimistic about restarting the Israel-Syria peace process," Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos reportedly told President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem on Wednesday night. Moratinos and Peres also spoke of combining Israeli-Palestinian peace talks with the Arab peace initiative, with the Spanish foreign minister citing a "definite momentum for peace" in the region. The president reportedly expressed hope that "we will be able to announce the renewal of the peace process during the UN General Assembly" in New York later in September.
