State against adding woman to Turkel Committee

The government announced to the High Court of Justice that the Turkel Committee will not add female members to the panel following its request on Wednesday, Israel Radio reported.

Judge Turkel stated that the formation of the panel will not be changed at this point since the primary testimonies by the prime minister, defense minister and chief of general staff, have already been given.

Turkel added that the addition of female members will not contribute to the work of the panel, will only burden it in light of the international developments and will slow the pace of the panel's work at this point.

The prosecutor added that the government made every effort to appoint a female to the committee and therefore the fault cannot fall on its members. The attorney general will examine whether the appointing process for the panel falls in line with women's equality rights.
