Survivors, officials remember inmates of Poland's Lodz ghetto

Survivors and state officials walked in a March of Remembrance in the central Polish city of Lodz Thursday, to mark 65 years since the deportation of the last Jews from the city's Litzmannstadt Ghetto. Hundreds of people gathered at the Radegast station, which is now a memorial. It was from here where Nazi trains brought Europe's Jews to the ghetto and where transports took them onward to the gas chambers at the death camps of Chelmno and Auschwitz-Birkenau. The marchers are headed to the newly established Survivors' Park, where Polish President Lech Kaczynski will dedicate a monument to Poles who saved Jews during World War II. Between 1942 and 1944, the Nazis sent more than 200,000 Jews from Lodz Ghetto to be gassed in death camps.
