Air strikes thought to have been directed by planes from a US-led military coalition killed at least 23 people in two parts of the eastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zor on Monday, a monitor said. Video released on the internet by Islamic State-affiliated Amaq News Agency on Tuesday purportedly showed wounded and dead children and the aftermath of damage left by one of the air strikes on the town of al-Bukamal, in the south of the province near the Iraqi border. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday that jets 'believed to belong to the international coalition' killed three militants and 13 civilians including children in al-Bukamal. There was no immediate comment from the coalition which has said it tries to avoid civilian deaths in its bombing campaigns against Islamic State militants in Syria and neighboring Iraq.
