US Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, who announced on Friday he would not seek re-election next year, has endorsed Senator Chuck Schumer of New York to succeed him in the leadership role, The Washington Post reported.

Reid said in an interview that Schumer, who is currently the No. 3 Senate Democrat, would likely win the party's top post without opposition, according to the newspaper report.
