Turkey prepares to deport son of UK Labor councilor who attempted to reach Syria

The son of a Labor councilor, who was among the nine British nationals detained as they tried to cross into Syria illegally, was taken to the Dalaman district in Turkey's southwestern province of Mugla on Sunday ahead of his deportation to the UK on Monday.

Nine British nationals were detained by paramilitary soldiers as they were trying to cross illegally into Syria from the border city of Hatay on Thursday (April 2).

It was not clear why the nine were trying to cross the frontier.
