The UN Security Council on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution aimed at ridding the world of nuclear weapons. The resolution calls for stepped up efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, promote disarmament and "reduce the risk of nuclear terrorism." US President Barack Obama presided over the summit-level meeting of the UNSC, attended by presidents and ministers from the 15 member nations. Among the invited guests were former US Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and George Shultz, former US Defense Secretary William Perry, media mogul Ted Turner, former US Senator Sam Nunn and Queen Noor of Jordan - all campaigners against nuclear weapons.
