U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo expresses confidence in Trump-Kim summit

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that his talks with Kim Jong Un convinced him there is a "real opportunity" for the North Korean leader and US President Donald Trump to reach a deal on ending North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
In his most extensive comments on his Easter weekend talks with Kim, Pompeo told ABC News that he was given a "clear mission" by Trump to raise the issue of Americans detained in North Korea and a verifiable "mechanism" for North Korea denuclearization.
Pompeo, who was CIA director at the time he met Kim in Pyongyang, said the United States will require North Korea in any deal to agree to take 'irreversible' steps to eliminate its nuclear weapons program.
