US agrees to revise and boost South Korean missile defense capacity

South Korea's leader Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump on Saturday agreed to raise the limits on Seoul's ballistic missiles to boost defenses against the North.

Under a voluntary treaty between the two allies, the South's limited to projectiles with a range of 800 kilometers, or 500 miles.

Compare that North Korea's most recent long-range missile test that showed a potential range of 10,000 kilometers.

Now Seoul wants to revise that agreement to allow for heavier payloads on the tips of their rockets.

The White House says Trump has given the greenlight for Seoul to buy billions of dollars worth of military hardware.

The two leaders pledged to continue putting strong economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea, even though after Pyongyang's latest missile test this week Trump said negotiations were "not the answer."
