WASHINGTON - A federal appeals judge based in San Francisco is retiring immediately following an inquiry by the court's chief judge over sexual harassment allegations, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals judge Alex Kozinski said in a statement that he "cannot be an effective judge and simultaneously fight this battle," according to the Post.
