WASHINGTON - US authorities have arrested a man in New York on charges that he provided support to Islamic State and planned to travel overseas to join the militant group, the Justice Department said on Thursday.

The man, Ali Saleh, a 22-year-old US citizen, was arrested earlier on Thursday and is accused of preparing to travel to the Middle East to support Islamic State, the department said in a statement. Justice department officials also said he used Twitter to post support for the militants and communicate with a Islamic State facilitator.
