US 'concerned' about Hungary's university law

The United States is "concerned" by new Hungarian legislation that Washington sees as targeting Central European University (CEU), which was founded by financier George Soros, the top US diplomat for Central Eastern Europe said on Tuesday.
"The United States is concerned by this legislation that was signed in law yesterday because it targets (CEU) very clearly and threatens...this important American Hungarian institution," US State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary, Hoyt Yee, said in Budapest.
Hoyt, who is in Hungary primarily to discuss that issue, told Reuters that Hungary remained an important US ally despite the move that hurts the university as well as academic freedoms.
