U.S. weighs significant troop drawdown in Afghanistan

President Donald Trump's administration is considering a significant reduction of potentially thousands of US forces in Afghanistan, US officials told Reuters on Thursday, a sign that Trump's patience with the 17-year-old war is thinning.
The drawdown, if confirmed, would slash troop levels from their current 14,000, and would follow Trump's decision to completely withdraw all US forces from Syria. The US officials spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The Pentagon declined comment.
