A vehicle containing an explosive was intercepted by the police's Serious and International Crime Unit in Nes Ziyona on Saturday afternoon following a dramatic pursuit.

Police said the driver rammed a number of private vehicles in his attempt to flee the area, and struck a policeman, lightly injuring him.

He has been arrested and taken for questioning.

"The explosive has been removed for analysis," police said in a statement.
