WJC calls on US to extradite alleged Yugoslavian Nazi

The World Jewish Congress has called on US courts to pave the way for alleged Nazi war criminal Peter Egner, 88, to be extradited to Serbia, where he is to stand trial on genocide charges.

Egner, a naturalized American citizen since 1966, is wanted in Belgrade for participating in the killing of 17,000 civilians, including Jews, Roma and political opponents, between 1941 and 1943, when Nazi Germany occupied then-Yugoslavia. The Serbian government issued an international arrest warrant for Egner in April, and filed an extradition motion with the US in November.
