Labor party chairwoman Shelly Yacimovich on Sunday called on government ministers to vote against a proposed decrease of import duties in order to protect Israeli industry and Israeli workers.

"Already, Israel is susceptible to imports more than European countries and the United States, which protects its local manufacturers," Yacimovich said. "Another reduction on import duties would lead to the destruction of industry and agriculture, the firing of tens of thousands of workers." A serious blow would be dealt to those industries, she added.
