MK Ofer Shelah of Yesh Atid, who is a member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that "this is the final stamp on [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's political failure on the northern front," after Russia called on Israel to rule out striking Syria.

"A combination of unnecessary arrogance and chatter whose entire purpose is political, coupled with diplomatic failure that we have warned of for months, leads to the IDF being tied up against Iran and harms security," Shelah said. "This is what happens when all that motivates the prime minister are political considerations and survival."
