What was Israel's most popular Google search of the past year?
The report looked at searches in the 12 months from March 2016 to March 2017.

The worldwide game sensation Pokemon GO was the most popular online news search among Israelis over the past year, according to a report released Sunday.The report analyzed Hebrew-language searches between March 2016 to March 2017 and was presented by Google ahead of the 2017 DIGIT Conference at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya (IDC) Sammy Ofer School of Communications on Monday.The survey found that despite the massive international news coverage of the US election and President Donald Trump and local coverage of the investigation into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, terrorist attacks and the controversy surrounding the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, the Israeli public is more interested in more personal issues.According to the report, housing prices, Partner, Shimon Peres and the new iPhone 7, respectively, followed Pokemon GO as the most searched news stories. Rounding out the top 10 list was Israeli anchor Sharon Perry, Euro 2016, Hapoel Beersheba team, fallen real-estate mogul Inbal Or and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, respectively.“The news agenda in Israel continues to lose relevancy vis-a-vis newsworthy information Israelis search for on the Internet,” said Roy Katz, founder and producer of the DIGIT conference.“The intensive search for [Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon’s] housing-price initiative teaches us that the Finance and Housing ministries have succeeded in arousing genuine interest and translating the news coverage into action,” he said.The sixth annual DIGIT conference, the only conference dealing exclusively with online media, is run in collaboration with Google and focuses on the major issues that concern digital media in Israel and abroad. It includes media master classes by senior industry executives such as journalists, editors, designers and programmers, as well as panel discussions and lectures
