THE SHUSTERMAN Foundation - Israel, a registered nonprofit organization based in Jerusalem, has announced the appointment of Karen Brunwasser as program officer. Her primary focus will be the furthering of the work of SFI to help strengthen the Jewish identity of secular Israelis. She will also be responsible for expanding SFI's efforts to promote Jerusalem as a pluralistic and open city. Brunwasser, who was born in Philadelphia, made aliya three years ago. SFI was established two years ago to better address Israeli needs by providing funding, technical assistance and leadership for new and existing initiatives. The foundation primarily focuses on Jewish peoplehood and renewal, the treatment and prevention of child abuse, early childhood development, service, and arts and culture. SFI is supported by the Charles and Lynn Shusterman Family Foundation, an American organization dedicated to helping the Jewish people flourish by supporting programs throughout the world that spread the joy of Jewish living, giving and learning. THE ZIONIST Federation of Australia has appointed Yigal Sela director of its Israel office. He replaces Frank Stein, who held the position for many years, and who decided to step down. Stein welcomed new immigrants from Australia, as well as youngsters from Jewish day schools and Zionist youth organizations who came to Israel on programs. He took care of their problems and assumed a big brother role in their lives. Over the past year, Stein decided that while not wanting to distance himself too much from this kind of activity, he wanted a chance to promote aliya abroad - preferably in Australia. Because he is very well known to the Jewish Agency, where he is liked and respected, chances were high that his ambition would be realized. He is hoping to be sent to Melbourne. He is currently in Australia, catching up on tourist activities that he did not undertake when living there before making aliya. He is also meeting up with relatives and friends, but has to cut short his vacation because the Jewish Agency summoned him for the fateful meeting that will decide his future. Sela, who previously headed the United Kibbutz Movement's Overseas Department, has taken over Stein's office at Kiryat Moriah in Jerusalem. There's a certain irony in the exchange. Sela, who made aliya from England in 1970, is a former aliya emissary to the UK. He became a Zionist Federation director in Jerusalem. Stein, a former Zionist Federation director in Jerusalem, now hopes to become an aliya emissary. THE JEWISH Agency has announced the appointment of Noga Maliniak as head of the Aliya Division in its Aliya Department. Maliniak, 49, was born in Kibbutz Ein Hahoresh. She spent 23 years in the IDF, and left as a senior officer in 1999 to begin a new career in civilian life. She was sent by the Jewish Agency to serve as an aliya emissary in Cincinnati, and has remained with the Jewish Agency ever since. In her most recent position, Maliniak was responsible for selecting emissaries and sending them abroad. In her new position, she will continue the primary mission of the Jewish Agency, which is to encourage aliya from the West, while engaging in rescue operations to bring Jews from countries of distress to Israel. AXIS COMMUNICATIONS, a global leader in IP-surveillance, and EVT, a provider of video management software, has announced that EVT has been awarded member status of the Axis Communications Application Development Partner program. The program is designed to assist partners to fully integrate Axis network cameras and video products in end-user solutions. EVT offers two hardware-independent, video-management and network-video recording solutions, the Vertex for medium- and large-scale surveillance deployments, and the Apex for smaller sites. TAMBOUR CEO Michael Dayan has announced two new appointments. Michael Sharir will serve as the company's deputy CFO, while Or Lotan will take up the post of company comptroller. Sharir, who was previously comptroller, will replace Yehoshua Schechter, who is retiring after 40 years with Tambour. The vacancy left by Sharir will be filled by Lotan. THE CORNERSTONE ceremony for Shachmon Pools, a new prestigious residential complex in Eilat, attracted Eilat Mayor Yitzhak Halevi, Eilat Chief Rabbi Yosef Hecht, people who have already purchased apartments in the project, together with relatives and friends of the project's investors and developers, Ofer Glazer and Itzik Azoulai. As a sign of good faith in his own investment, Glazer told the crowd that he and his wife, Shari Arison, had purchased the penthouse apartment in the project. Architects for the project are Fishbein, Gal Or. The complex is located in the southern part of the city. SYMANTECH HAS recruited Oren Yesharim, 30, as the new sales manager for Symantech's security division in Israel. The division is managed by Tzvia Birman, and includes military clientele, people in the security business and security industries.
