  • THE ISRAEL chapter of FIABCI, the Paris-based International Real Estate Federation, will host the federation's immediate past world president Julian Josephs at the Jerusalem branch of the Israel Bar Association, 1 Chopin Street. He will deliver the keynote address at a real-estate conference dealing with local and global issues. The conference is co-sponsored by the Jerusalem Chamber of Real Estate Brokers and the Israel Bar Association.
  • FORMER SUPREME Court president Meir Shamgar and former foreign minister David Levy will be the keynote speakers at a memorial evening for attorney Dov Milman, a member of the Seventh Knesset who died in May 2007. The event will also launch a book about Milman's life and writings published by his children. Born in Riga, Latvia, Milman joined Betar in 1931 and the Irgun (Etzel) in 1939. He was member of the Irgun command staff in Jerusalem and Betar commander in the Jerusalem District from 1940-1944. One of the founders of Herut, and a member of its central committee, he was chairman of its Tel Aviv branch from 1955-59. He was the first secretary of the Israel Bar Association and subsequently chairman of the Tel Aviv Bar Association. Later, he served as a delegate to the European Parliament and was deputy head of Israel's delegation to the Common Market. From 1981-83 he served as ambassador to Portugal. The memorial evening, under the auspices of the Jabotinsky Institute, will be held at the Jabotinsky Museum, 38 King George Street, Tel Aviv. Thursday, September 18
  • FORMER TEL Aviv mayor Shlomo Lahat and his wife Ziva, together with Gila Shaham, the widow of Col. Ze'ev (Zonik) Shaham, will be honored at a tribute night at Beth Hatefutsoth hosted by the Institute for the Advancement of Education in Jaffa, better known as the Jaffa Institute. They will be recognized for their contributions to its establishment, in 1982, and their abiding interest in the Jaffa Institute's enrichment programs aimed at children from low socioeconomic backgrounds who suffer from low self-esteem and malnutrition.
  • THE FRUIT Growers Association will conduct a conference on Israel's water crisis and a plan for water conservation at Beit Ha'am, Beit Yitzhak, at 8:30 a.m. Among the participants will be Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon.
