Monday, November 3 LIKUD LEADER Binyamin Netanyahu and Britain's Shadow Foreign Secretary the Rt. Hon. William Hague MP will be the keynote speakers at the Israel Britain and the Commonwealth Association's annual Balfour Dinner, which this year celebrates Israel's 60th anniversary, and the country's liberation from British rule. The event is at the Tel Aviv Hilton. A SEMINAR on the research and execution of business initiatives will be held at the Open University, 108 Ravitzky Street, Ra'anana at 5 p.m. Keynote speaker will be venture capitalist Yaron Yachini, a senior partner at Exponent Ventures. Other speakers include Dr. Arieh Nachmias, head of the university's MBA course, and Prof. Tamar Almor of the School for Business Administration. AN INTERNATIONAL symposium honoring gerontologist Prof. Ariela Lowenstein, head of the Center for Research and Study of Aging will be held in the auditorium of the Hecht Museum on the campus of the University of Haifa. Sessions will begin at 8.30 a.m. Participants will discuss various aspects of aging, including whether caring for the elderly should be a filial or state responsibility. Tuesday, November 4 "JEWISH LITERATURE as World Literature: a universalistic concept of the 19th century Wissenschaft des Judentums," is the title of the lecture to be delivered by Prof. Andreas Kilcher of the University of Zurich at 2 p.m. in the Faculty of Jewish Studies at Bar Ilan University, Building 410, Room 311. The event is under the auspices of the Joseph and Norman Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People. Wednesday November 5 MOST OF the traffic at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport between November 5-8 will be more in the nature of aviation interest than in tourism. Visitors from around the world will be there for the Avex Air Show and Expo. The four-day event will include technical sessions and seminars. IN CELEBRATION of the 75th birthday of Prof. Sasson Somech, the Faculty of Humanities at Tel Aviv University will host a symposium on "Between Arabic and Hebrew." Speakers will include Nili Cohen, Mahmoud Genim, Sammy Michael, Anita Shapira and of course Somech himself. The event will be held at 5.15 p.m. in Room 001 in the Max Webb building. Thursday, November 6 PROF. YIFTAH Harari will be the guest speaker within the framework of a series of lectures hosted by Ariel University's School of Architecture. He will discuss be clever architecture and conventional green construction that takes climatic, environmental and social factors into account as an integral part of the planning process. The lecture will begin at the 3 p.m. in the central lecture hall of the School of Architecture. Sunday, November 9 NOBEL PRIZE Laureate in Economics Prof. Robert Aumann, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will speak on "Talmud and Judaism" at the Jerusalem Institute for Market Studies, 2 Rehov Itzhak Elhanan (next to the Inbal Hotel). The lecture, which begins at 7 p.m. will be in English and admission is free but RSVP is mandatory to Corinne Sauer at lectures@jims-israel.org. Tuesday, November 11 ISRAEL GATEWAY 2008, marking 60 years of accomplishment, innovation, creativity, initiative development, research contributions and international partnerships, will be held at the Dan Panorama Hotel, Tel Aviv. The event will provide an opportunity for embassies, commercial attaches and business delegations from abroad to meet Israeli business people and to confer. Wednesday, November 12 THE ANNUAL Prime Minister's Conference for Export and International Cooperation will be held at the Jerusalem International Convention Center (Binyanei Ha'uma). The event is four conferences in one, focusing on information communication technology, life sciences, environmental technologies, and Israel's financial markets. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will deliver the keynote address. THE INFLUENCE of Syria on the Israeli-Palestinian peace Process will be discussed by Abdullah Abdullah, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Prof. Moshe Maoz of the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University Jerusalem, Mahmoud Labadi, former PLO spokesman and another Israeli whose name is yet to be announced. The event in the "Afternoons with IPCRI" series sponsored by the Israel Palestine Center for Research and Information, will take place at 3 p.m. at the Ambassador Hotel, Jerusalem. Thursday, November 13 IN THE aftermath of the Acre riots, the Jabotinsky Institute in Tel Aviv will focus its next panel discussion on the attitude of the State to its Arab minority. Speakers will include MK Gilad Erdan, Dr. Mordechai Kedar of Bar-Ilan University, and Ibrahim Abu-Shindi, the head of the Jewish-Arab Institute in Jaffa. The debate will be chaired by Yossi Ahimeir, director of the Jabotinsky Institute. The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Jabotinsky Museum, 38 King George Street, Tel Aviv. Tuesday, November 18 THE 17TH International Conference of the Israel Society for Quality will take place at the Ramada Hotel, Jerusalem and will be linked with Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations. Topics to be discussed include: the strategy and the future of quality management; the role of the quality manager; quality education; organizational excellence and environmental quality; information security; safety; business continuity management; homeland security; project assurance; innovations in standardization; RAMS; Metrolog and other relevant subjects. Thursday, November 20 THE ANNUAL Kibbutz Industries conference will take place at the Kibbutz Shefayim Hotel, and will focus on economic growth during a time of crisis. Guest of honor at the conference will be Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai.
