El Al records losses of some $39 million

El Al has recorded losses of some $39 million, according to a financial report published Wednesday that refers to 2008. The airline company cited last year's oil price hikes and the strengthening of the shekel against dollar as reasons for the losses. In 2007, El Al made a profit of $45 million.
