National Union MK Arye Eldad said that Iran is using the Arab Spring to distract Western attention from its nuclear program, and that "The people who believe in the Arab Spring are fools who are addicted to the wishful thinking that these changes will lead the democratization of the Middle East."
Speaking with Benjamin Gottlieb of the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Eldad said that the "only thing that may stop Iran is a military attack and we have to hope that we have a different US president with a different policy before Iran has the bomb."

Speaking about the pro-democracy uprisings that have spread throughout the Middle East, the National Union MK said he was convinced that protests would only bring "radical Islam, jihadi movements, and in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood to power."
Eldad, who is considered one of the most effective right-wing MKs in the government, said that he believed the Egyptian government, which he said will be seized by the Muslim Brotherhood, would eventually prefer to break the peace treaty with Israel.
"I think [the peace deal] will last a year or two and, under certain circumstances, [the Egyptian government] will prefer to break it," Eldad said.
