Married? With children? Married, 4 children - 2 boys, 2 girls, of course
Occupation: Tour guide
Education: Political science
Pets: A dog - A beautiful Belgian Malinois
Religious affiliation / observance: Atheist Jew
Last person / party I voted for: Shinui R.I.P.
Next person / party I will vote for: There is no one out there
My history (100 words max): Born in Jerusalem, graduated H.S. in Chicago, returned to Israel, 3 years of military service like all Israelis (rephrasing: most Israelis) Studied tourism, political science, business. Fought for separation of state & church, law implementation, long-term national planning. Found out I was almost by myself in this impossible combination of politics / values
Family history (100 words max): Parents - survivors who came to Israel 1947 / 1950 respectively. Father - from ultra orthodox Eastern Hungary, mother from moderate orthodox Budapest. Wife's family - Kurdistan. When the kids attended the Technion and were asked their origins - they never introduced themselves as Hungarians, but always as Kurds (Davkah)
My connection with Israel: A passport, bar mitzvah, wild driving, bitter memories of Golda Meir who had sent me to war by turning down Sadat's peace offer on January 25 1971, and yes, living comfortably most of the time by introducing Israel to visitors in a way that causes them to get excited, for some reason
What I would take with me to a deserted island: My library (2500 books), my dog, and even my my wife of 33 years. Have I mentioned my modem ?
If I could have dinner with any person in the world it would be: Prof. Haim Weizman. Try to learn where we went wrong. Then with prof. Chechanover. Try to learn where we went wrong. Then with Olmert - to learn that we never went wrong
Which feminine/masculine trait would I like to have: To be more forgiving... doesn't work
What angers you: Judge Dalia Dorner for sending a thief's victim to 14 months in prison - and setting the thief free
What makes you happy: My kids' academic excellence and economic success is the reward for all the hardships
Last book I read was: Assici's resistance by Alexander Ramati, A pigeon and A Boy by Meir Shalev, Point of No Return by Ronen Bergman, (I read 3-4 books simultaneously)
Comfort food: A mint candy
My life five years from now: Sculling on Hayarkon river, cormorants & ducks around, throwing my dog her tennis balls, working 7 days per month
You may not like it but I have something controversial to say: Unless demographic trends change dramatically, the future of the democratic Jewish homeland is at risk. The political indifference of Israelis, accompanied by compromising on ignorance and mediocrity are taking us to directions Theodor Herzel himself would have never guessed. Shaul Yahalom's law - Tisha Be'Av - a compulsory national mourning day was just an introduction
Happiness: 1-10 (10 being the happiest) 9
