Education Ministry: Exam overhaul in the works

In response to Secondary School Teachers Association Ran Erez's claim that the annual matriculation exams (bagruyot) have become a "golden calf" that has hijacked the curriculum, Prof. Anat Zohar, chair of the ministry's Pedagogic Secretariat, said in a statement that the ministry is preparing an overhaul of the exam content. Zohar reported that the changes will include questions that demand thought and understanding of the material. In addition, the revised exams will require students to prepare assignments and research projects, which will be figured into their final matriculation grade.
