Swedish Friends of MDA help terminally ill fulfill final wish

Terminally ill Israelis who have a last wish to get somewhere or do something in the country but are unable to because of disability will be helped to accomplish this by a NIS 1.2 million well-equipped mobile intensive care ambulance donated to Magen David Adom by the Swedish Jewish community.
The ambulance, which has a refrigerator and a sophisticated video system, will take the dying to religious and historical sites, nature spots, cultural or sports events, the seashore or anywhere else they desire.
The yellow-and-red ambulance was dedicated at the Western Wall on Monday in a ceremony attended by Deputy Health Minister Ya'acov Litzman, rabbi of the holy places Shmuel Rabinovich, a Swedish Jewish delegation and MDA director-general Eli Bin.
A video camera on the roof enables passengers to get a broad view of their surroundings, while a lift makes it possible for the patient in a special large-wheeled wheelchair to enter and exit easily. A pneumatic bed reduces bumps during travel. A similar project in the Netherlands is very popular. The service can be ordered by calling MDA at 101.
