2 shot dead in US supermarket distribution center

A gunman opened fire Sunday at a distribution center for supermarket chain Safeway Inc., near Denver, Colorado, killing one and injuring five people, including a police officer, before the shooter was killed. Three of the shooting victims were in critical condition, and one suffered minor injuries, police spokesman Sonny Jackson said. The officer was shot in the leg by the suspect, but the injury was not life-threatening, Jackson said. Jackson could not immediately confirm whether officers shot the suspect or whether the wound was self-inflicted. He also would not identify the suspect and would not say whether he worked for Safeway. Several fires were burning inside the distribution center near Interstate 70, Denver Fire department Phil Champagne said. About 60 people who evacuated the building were waiting in two buses to hear whether they could re-enter the building.
