7.5-magnitude earthquake rocks Mozambique

An extremely powerful magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Mozambique along the Indian Ocean coast early Thursday, collapsing at least one building in the main port city and sending people fleeing into the streets, witnesses said. Buildings swayed and doors shook across the southeast African nation from the coast to towns bordering South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, but there was no immediate word of injuries. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 7.5 quake struck at 12:19 a.m. Thursday , with its epicenter located 225 kilometers southwest of Mozambique's main port of Beira. It was felt as far away as Durban, on South Africa's coast, and Harare, in central Zimbabwe.
