Aide: India's home minister resigns in wake of attacks

India's home minister has resigned in the wake of the deadly Mumbai attacks, a top aide said on Sunday. R.K. Kumar said that the minister, Shivraj Patil, sent his resignation to the prime minister to take responsibility for the attacks. The prime minister has yet to respond. Patil, who has long been unpopular in India, is in charge of much of India's internal security services. The Mumbai attacks, which left at least 174 people dead, ended Saturday morning when security forces took control of the historic Taj Mahal hotel after killing three gunmen.
