Australia tells US it won't accept Gitmo detainees

Australia's Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Saturday that the United States had been told for a second time that Australia would not resettle detainees freed from the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba. Gillard said that US President George W. Bush's administration was told on Friday that a second request made in early December to resettle an unspecified number of detainees had been rejected. She said that the detainees did not meet Australia's stringent national security and immigration criteria.
