Bomb explosion kills one, wounds 13 in India

A bomb exploded in a busy market place in India's restive northeast Tuesday, killing one person and wounding 13 others, an official said. The victims were shoppers and passers-by in Gauhati, the capital of Assam state, district administrator Prateek Hajela said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion. The attack came one week ahead of the anniversary of the establishment of the separatist United Liberation Front of Asom in 1979. The group usually steps up violence around this time every year.
