Explosion kills British soldier in Afghanistan

A British soldier has been killed during an operation against enemy forces in southern Afghanistan. The British Ministry of Defense said Saturday a solider from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards died Friday while on a routine patrol near Lashkar Gah in central Helmand province. The death brings to 169 the number of British military personnel who have died while serving in Afghanistan since the country's invasion by U.S.-led forces in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
