Iraq: No hasty change in US policy with Obama win

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said he does not expect an immediate change in US policy toward his country when Barack Obama takes office as US president. Zebari said Baghdad does not foresee "any change happening overnight or any hasty change in American policy and commitment toward Iraq." He told al-Arabiya television Wednesday that Iraq views Obama's win as an opportunity to establish "a successful future partnership between the two countries." Obama opposed the Iraq invasion of 2003 and has called for a complete withdrawal of combat troops within 16 months. Zebari also congratulated Obama on his win and called the election "historic."
