Jail time dropped in Dubai beach sex trial of 2 British tourists

A Dubai appeals court has upheld the guilty verdicts against a British couple convicted of having sex on a beach. But the Dubai Court of Appeals said the couple will not have to go to prison. The two had been sentenced to three months in prison each after they were convicted in October of having sex outside of marriage, public indecency and drunkenness. On Tuesday, the three-judge panel suspended their prison sentences. But it said the two must still be deported from the United Arab Emirates and each pay a fine of about $272. Last week, the pair admitted in court that they were drunk when they were arrested over the summer. But they denied having sex on the beach.
